March 27, 2006: Websense Security Labs Reports Spreading of Unpatched Internet Explorer Vulnerability
Today Websense issued a press release announcing Websense Security Labs discovered
a rapidly growing amount of unique URL's attacking a recently found vulnerability within Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) that Websense security customers were automatically
protected from by utilizing Real-Time Security Updates. The expertise of the Websense Security Labs and Websense technology clearly demonstrate that all web filtering
solutions are not the same. This latest exploit demonstrates the power of the Websense security solution. Even before the vulnerability can be patched and antivirus signatures
were available, Websense security customers were protected.
Websense Security Labs has discovered hundreds of websites that are specially crafted
to exploit a recently found vulnerability within Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE), which currently has no patch available. The vulnerability allows the launching of malicious code
on an end users machine without that users consent. Utilizing this exploit, a hacker could gain control over a vulnerable machine by crafting special code hosted on websites.
Websense Web Security Suite customers are automatically protected from these new threats by utilizing Real-Time Security Updates, which provide real-time updates to the
URL database as malicious websites exploiting this vulnerability are found.
Web Security Suite customers do not have to wait for an antivirus patch to be protected,
they are protected within minutes of discovery and without any administrative action.
